Configure eduroam wireless network with Windows Vista / Windows 7

  1. Go to “Start”, right click on “Network”, then click “Properties”.
  2. On the “Network and Sharing Center” window, select “Manage wireless networks”:

  4. If you have the "eduroam" network configured, remove it. Then click “Add”:
  5. Remover rede sem fios "e–U", caso se aplique.

  6. Select “Manually create a network profile”.
  7. Enter the network name and select the options as shown:

  8. Enter the network name and select the options as shown:
    • Network name: eduroam
    • Security type: WPA2–Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Start this connection automatically: Checked
    Then click Next.

  9. Choose "Change connection settings":

  11. On the “Connection” tab, check the options as shown:
    • "Connect automatically when this network is in range": Checked
    • "Connect to a more preferred network if available": Checked
    • "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting": Unchecked
    Then open the “Security” tab.

  13. Check the options as shown:
    • Security type”: WPA-Enterprise
    • "Encryption type": TKIP
    • "Choose a network authentication method": Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    • “ Remember my credentials for this connection …”: Checked
    Then click “Settings”.

  15. Check the options as shown:
    • “Validate server certificate”: Unchecked
    • “Select Authentication Method”: Secured password (EAP–MSCHAP v2)
    • The only radio button checked should be “Enable Fast Reconnect”.
    Then click “Configure...”.

  17. On the “EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties” window, uncheck the option “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).” and click “OK” to proceed.

  19. After the above changes on the "Security" tab, click on the "Advanced Settings" button (only for Windows 7):

  21. Click on the select box "Specify authentication mode" and choose "User Authentication" (only for Windows 7):

  23. Windows will establish the connection to the newly created network. Make sure you’re in a covered area. If the eduroam network is available, you’ll be prompted with the message “Additional information is required to connect to eduroam”. Click it to enter your credentials (only Windows vista).
    Enter your username and password, as provided by SI:

  25. The system will start the authentication process and an icon as shown below will appear when connection is established:
